In soul music, everything comes together: fun, emotion, dance, love and rawness. The Soul Survivors from Amsterdam are mainly talented twenty-somethings from the conservatory who know where the roots of pop music lie. The band consists of friends who left their marks in the Amsterdam live music scene. The Soul Survivors hit the audience with songs from Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett and the Temptations, among others.

Singer Remko Spaaij has that dark soul voice that enchants every room. The rhythm section and horns bring the Motown and Memphis soul sound back to this time. Soul Survivors dare to deviate from the beaten track by also playing the lesser-known songs from the soul catalogue, including the neo-soul of today. Every now and then, the band slips in a rousing song of their own.

Soul also means blues and rock. Think of how the Blues Brothers did it. A blues cover by Andre Hazes is also on the set list. The band can transform any party into the Northern Soul dance nights of the English 1970s as in the Commitments movie. Soul Survivors, with heart and soul.

Bij soul muziek komt alles samen: plezier, emotie, dans, liefde en rauwheid. De Soul Survivors uit Amsterdam zijn voornamelijk talentvolle twintigers van het conservatorium die weten waar de roots van de popmuziek liggen. De band bestaat uit vrienden die hun meters hebben gemaakt in de Amsterdamse live muziek scene. De Soul Survivors raken het publiek met nummers van onder meer Otis Redding, Wilson Picket en de Temptations.

Zanger Remko Spaaij heeft die donkere soul stem die elke zaal in vervoering brengt. De ritme sectie en de blazers toveren het Motown en Memphis soul geluid terug naar deze tijd. Soul Survivors durven van de gebaande paden af te wijken door ook de minder bekende songs te spelen uit de soul catalogus, inclusief de neo soul van nu. Af en toe stopt de band er ongemerkt een opzwepend eigen nummer tussendoor.

Soul betekent ook blues en rock, denk aan hoe de Blues Brothers het deden. Een blues cover van Andre Hazes staat ook op de setlijst. De band kan elk feest transformeren in de Northern Soul dans avonden uit de Engelse jaren 70 zoals in de Commitments film. Soul Survivors, met hart en ziel.
